Roohi is a horror-comedy film directed by Hardik Mehta. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner Maddock Films.
The film follows Bhawara (Rajkumar Rao) and Kattanni (Varun Sharma), low-key gangsters, who kidnap Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor) as ordered by their boss Gujiya Shakeel (Manav Vij). Things go wrong when they find out that Roohi has been possessed by the evil spirit Afza. Now, Bhawara and Kattanni must find a way to get out of this convoluted situation.
First of all, as mentioned in the trailer of the film, it is from the makers of Stree, and surely it has some horror+comedy Stree vibes to it, but it failed to live up to the expectations. In the universe of horror stories, this film surely has a unique plot, but it disappoints with its bad writing and screenplay. The film does have few funny and scary moments. In the first half, the film sets the base but struggles to find the direction. And, the second half somehow finds some direction but has no impact towards the end. There is no point in the story where we care about any situation or any character. Not even Rajkumar Rao is able to save the film, though he tries hard. Varun Sharma’s character has nothing new to offer. And, Janhvi Kapoor plays a titular character but she has not many dialogues and has no character development. The thing I enjoyed the most was the film’s promotional song “Nadiyo Paar..”.
Verdict : It is a below-average film. But, still, if you want to watch it then you can wait for it to come on a streaming platform.
