Dil Bechara (2020) – Movie Review

Dil Bechara is the rom-com drama film directed by Mukesh Chhabra. It is Mukesh’s directorial debut film. The film is based on the 2012 novel The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The film features the last performance by Sushant Singh Rajput, who died in June 2020. The film released on 24 July 2020 on Disnet+ Hotstar. The film is available for streaming for all subscribers and non-subscribers.

The film follows Kizie (Sanjana Sanghi), a young girl, who is fighting thyroid cancer. Her stagnant life starts blooming when she meets happy-go-lucky Manny (Sushant Singh Rajput). The film tells the story of Kizie and Manny and their extraordinary love story.

The best part of the film is that it is just 100 minutes long, and there is not a single dull moment. I mean, the film has been put in together so well that you’ll lose the track of time. The lead performances by Sushant and Sanjana are pure and authentic, and their on-screen chemistry is just perfect. The supporting roles are also as compelling as the lead ones, Swastika Mukherjee as Kizie’s mother, Saswata Chatterjee as Kizie’s father, and Sahil Vaid as Manny’s friend. The film also has one guest appearance, but I would like to keep it a surprise.

The film has some really powerful and heartfelt moments that unknowingly your eyes will compliment it. Another best part of the film is its background score, which is composed by legend A. R. Rahman with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The score is beautifully weaved into the film and it compliments the film in every way. The film is great to watch with your loved one (who is in your life or your memory). But, while watching the film, it pierced my heart knowing that we would not be able to see Sushant anymore.

And finally, Sushant, you will always be missed!

Verdict : The film is moving, romantic, and highly entertaining. The film is a perfect homage to the very talented late actor Sushant. A must watch.

Rating : 4.3/5
